Prism Dust
documentation

Everything the vaults do with your bag, in the order they do it. How dust is measured, lent, swept and minted into SPEC, and how SPEC turns into requests to 338 models through one key.

Overview

Prism Dust turns the memecoins you are still holding into AI credit. You deposit a bag into a vault of your own on Solana. Nothing is sold. The vault lends what is left of the bag, and the interest it earns is minted to you as SPEC, a token worth one dollar of AI.

A bag rarely earns much. The point is that it earns anything at all: a coin that has done nothing for months starts paying for requests to Claude, GPT, Gemini and the rest, slot by slot, while you keep every token of it.

The short version

  • Your bag stays in your vault and is counted in tokens, so the count never drops.
  • What is left of it backs a small loan, and the loan is lent to wallets that still believe.
  • The gap between the two rates is your dust. It accrues every slot and is minted as SPEC.
  • SPEC pays for any of 338 models through one OpenAI-compatible API, or in the app.

Quickstart

From a wallet full of bags to your first request takes four steps. None of them sells anything.

  1. Connect a Solana walletThe one with the bags in it. Prism Dust reads the balances and lists the vaults each token qualifies for.
  2. Pick a vaultWallet dust goes to the dust vault. Everything else goes to the bag vault for its family: APEx, CATx or FROGx.
  3. DepositThe tokens move into a vault owned by your wallet alone. You can withdraw them in any slot.
  4. Get a keySPEC starts arriving at the next sweep. Create an API key and send your first request with model="auto".
python# pip install openai
from openai import OpenAI

client = OpenAI(base_url=DUST_BASE_URL, api_key=DUST_KEY)

reply = client.chat.completions.create(
    model="auto",
    messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "Why did I buy the top?"}],
)
print(reply.choices[0].message.content)

Glossary

TermMeaning
BagA memecoin position you are still holding. Usually out of principle.
DustInterest earned on a bag, and also the lamports and sub-cent balances left in empty token accounts.
What is leftThe current value of a bag as a share of what you paid for it. The vaults lend against this number only.
BelieverA wallet that borrows from a bag vault because it still expects the coin to come back.
SPECAI credit as a token. 1 SPEC is backed by 1 USDC and buys $1 of AI. Named after a speck of dust.
SlotOne Solana slot, about 0.4 seconds. Dust accrues once per slot.
SweepThe keeper run every 30 minutes that collects accrued dust and mints SPEC.
SpreadLending rate minus borrowing rate, in percentage points. A bag vault only opens while it is positive.

The dust vault

Most Solana wallets carry hundreds of empty token accounts, each holding a little rent and sometimes a balance too small to sell. The dust vault sweeps these into one position and lends it in the main market at 4.37%.

There is no loan in this vault and nothing can be liquidated. What goes in is already dust, and it earns the full lending rate.

Typical walletThe median wallet we read had 412 empty token accounts. Swept together, that is enough dust to earn about eleven cents of AI a month on every $10,000 that originally went into those coins.

Bag vaults

A bag vault keeps your tokens as collateral and borrows against 30% of what is left of them, at 0.88%, in an isolated market. The borrowed dollars are lent to believers in the main market at 6.18%. The bag earns the spread on the borrowed part.

bag rate = 30% × (6.18% − 0.88%) = 1.59% a year
VaultHoldsWhat is leftMax LTVRate
APExCoins bought at the top6.2%70%1.59%
CATxCat coins11.0%62%1.59%
FROGxFrog coins3.4%73%1.59%

Each vault repays early once its loan reaches 38% of what is left, far from the market limit. When a coin falls, the loan shrinks with it before anything else happens.

Your tokensThe vault counts a deposit in tokens, not dollars. Only interest is ever spent, so the number of tokens you get back is the number you put in.

Rates and spreads

Every figure on the main page comes from one formula. It is applied to what you paid, not to what the bag is worth now, because that is the number holders remember.

spec_a_month = paid × left × rate ÷ 12
VaultPaidLeftRateSPEC a month
Dust$10,0000.31%4.37%0.11
APEx$10,0006.2%1.59%0.82
CATx$10,00011.0%1.59%1.46
FROGx$10,0003.4%1.59%0.45

Rates are read at every sweep and move with demand. Borrowing gets cheaper when nobody wants the coin; lending pays more when somebody still does.

Closed vaults

A bag vault closes the moment its spread turns negative. Today 14 coins sit in closed vaults: borrowing against them costs 7.65% while dust lending pays 4.37%, a spread of −3.28 pp.

A closed vault stops borrowing and repays what it owes. Deposits stay where they are and can be withdrawn in any slot. In most of these coins the depositor is the last holder left, so nobody else is affected.

Rugged coinsCoins whose developer sold the supply go straight to a closed vault. They can be deposited, and they earn exactly what they are worth.

Minting

Dust accrues every slot. Every 30 minutes a keeper sweeps each vault, converts the accrued interest to USDC, puts that USDC in the reserve and mints the same amount of SPEC to the depositor.

SPEC is minted in units of 0.000001. Anything smaller is carried to the next sweep. For most bags, most dust is carried for quite a while.

accrued   0.000041120 USDC
minted    0.000041 SPEC
carried 0.000000120 USDC // next sweep

Backing and redemption

Every SPEC in circulation has one USDC behind it in the reserve. The reserve only receives USDC from sweeps and only releases it for spent requests and redemptions, so the ratio stays at 1:1.

  • Spend. Each request burns SPEC equal to its real price at the provider.
  • Redeem. Burn SPEC and receive USDC at any time, minus a 2% exit fee.
  • Hold. SPEC does not expire. It is the only part of the position that does not lose value while you wait.

SPEC for agents

SPEC is a regular Solana token. Send it to an agent's wallet and the agent can create its own key and pay for its own models. When the balance runs out, requests return 402 until the next sweep tops it up.

A common setup is one bag vault per agent: the bag earns, the agent spends, and nobody has to look at the chart.

Auto routing

With model="auto", each request goes to the cheapest model that can do it. A small classifier reads the prompt, picks the cheapest model that passes for that kind of task, and falls back to the next one if a provider is down.

Auto routing is on for wallets holding at least 1,000,000 $DUST. The balance is read when the wallet signs in. Nothing is staked or locked.

Models and prices

Requests are charged at the provider’s price with nothing added. A standard request is 1,500 tokens in and 500 out. The full list has 338 models; these are the ones most dust ends up at.

Authentication

Keys are bound to the wallet that created them and spend that wallet’s SPEC. Pass the key as a bearer token. A wallet can hold up to 16 keys; revoking one takes effect in the next slot.

httpAuthorization: Bearer $DUST_KEY
Content-Type: application/json

Chat completions

The API follows the OpenAI chat format, so any compatible SDK works by changing the base URL. Streaming, tools and JSON mode behave as usual.

curlcurl $DUST_BASE_URL/v1/chat/completions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $DUST_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"model":"auto","messages":[{"role":"user","content":"Is it coming back?"}]}'

messagesarrayStandard role and content pairs.
streambooleanServer-sent events, charged per chunk.
toolsarrayFunction calling, where the model supports it.
max_tokensintegerCaps the cost of a request. Recommended when paying in dust.

Every response carries the SPEC it cost, so an agent can track its own spending.

Errors

CodeTypeWhat it means
401invalid_keyThe key is unknown or was revoked.
402insufficient_specThe request costs more SPEC than the wallet holds. Wait for the next sweep, or ask a cheaper model.
403auto_not_allowedauto was requested by a wallet holding less than 1,000,000 $DUST.
404model_not_foundThe model name is not on the list.
409vault_closedA deposit was sent to a vault whose spread is negative.
429rate_limitedToo many requests in one slot. Dust is slow; requests should be too.
503provider_downEvery model that fits the request is down. Auto routing retries the fallback first.

The token

$DUST is the Prism Dust token on Solana. It is not deposited, staked or lent by any vault. Holding it changes how far your SPEC goes, nothing more.

Program interface

Six instructions. Only the keeper can sweep, and no instruction can send a deposit anywhere except back to the wallet that made it.

instructionsdeposit(vault, amount) // tokens into your own vault
withdraw(vault, amount) // any slot, no cap, even while closed
sweep(vault)                // keeper only, every 30 minutes
mint_spec(owner) // called by sweep, 1 SPEC per 1 USDC
redeem(amount) // burn SPEC, receive USDC minus 2%
close_vault(vault)          // automatic when spread < 0

Risks

  • The coin can go lower. The loan shrinks with it and the vault repays early, but the dust shrinks too.
  • The believers can stop believing. Lending demand falls, the spread turns negative and the vault closes.
  • The dev can come back. Historically this is worse than the dev leaving.
  • Program risk. The vaults are new code. Deposits are capped while they are new.
  • Model prices change. Requests are charged at the provider’s live price, so the same SPEC can buy more or fewer requests next month.
